iDiv is one of Germany’s premier sources of objective biodiversity research.
Our focus is on understanding the processes driving the variety of life on earth and establishing the scientific basis for its sustainable management.
Together, we can help society manage, protect, and restore biodiversity for a more resilient future.
“Biodiversity is more than the sum of all plants and animals, and it is more than an abstract concept. Biodiversity is the fabric of life that sustains us all. The better we understand biodiversity, the better we safeguard our own well-being.” PROVISIONAL
iDiv’s Supporting Partners
Founded in 2012 with a grant from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), iDiv has grown to include UPDATE over 300 employees and members within its wider consortium.
With facilities in Leipzig, Germany, iDiv is supported by three Central German universities as well as the UFZ.
What does the ‘i’ in iDiv stand for?
The ‘i’ in iDiv stands for Integration: By bringing together different research approaches, iDiv scientists can better answer questions about how biodiversity is changing.
Integration also promotes ongoing collaboration and knowledge exchange between scientists and at the interface between policy and society. This is how we ensure our research makes an impact.
